Cost of Being Indian

If in Maharashtra, you have to speak Marathi, or else your not from India.  If in North, you have to know hindi or else your not an Indian.  What is it with languages.  When we go abroad people recognize us as Indians, even if we are Indians born and settled abroad.  But in India the language identifies our citizenship.   A Maharashtrian has to know Marathi, a North Indian Hindi or is it Punjabi etc.  A South Indian, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu etc.  Being a part of India is not enough, one has to be a part of a State and know the language too.  What happens to the universal language English,  and our National language Hindi and then thereafter the various states that we come from. Come to think of it  Being Indian is knowing that you belong to your country and love being an Indian.  Jai Hind.
